Engineering Expo2008
What is Engineering Expo?
Engineering Expo is an excellent
science and engineering based project for talented students. Competing in Expo gives students an opportunity to
apply their knowledge and skills in a fun and dynamic way while challenging other top high school students from
the Midwest.
Expo is traditionally composed of two
major parts. The Formal Design Project is completed prior to the event and presented to a panel of Purdue
Student Engineering Foundation (PSEF) judges on the day of Expo. The Impromptu Design Contest is held only on
the day of Expo. Students have no prior knowledge of the impromptu challenge and compete as a team against
other schools.
This year Expo is turning over a new
leaf. Instead of the entire competition being scholarship driven, students will now have a choice of whether they
want to compete and win a monetary award or compete for the sake of learning about engineering. Those who choose
the route of scholarship competition will have to research and build a bridge before the day of Expo as well as
participate in an "impromptu" competition.
Those who would rather enjoy Expo for the
engineering learning experience will research bridge construction prior to Expo and then participate in an
"impromptu" competition. If students choose this route, they will not receive monetary compensation for winning
efforts.
